It was my first novel by Susan Meissner and to be honest I enjoyed it from the start.The novel starts when a immigrant “Sophie” went to san Francisco on a mail bride proposal and married Martin who was a rich guy.She was assigned duty to take care of his 5 year old daughter “Kat”.Martin told her not to touch his documents.Further,you read you’ll understand about San Francisco earthquake(a historical event happened in 1906).

I loved the way author told and highlighted some of earthquake events and that made me emotional.Coming back to story,before earthquake a girl named “Belinda”knocked on Sophie door and told her she’s looking for her husband “James”.After meeting Sophie she learned that martin and James both are one person.They checked and investigated Martin.Then,in the story earthquake happened and they all lived apart from Martin.Belinda was pregnant and gave birth to Sarah.After that,they learned that kat mother “Candace”is alive.These girls went to her and she saw her daughter kat.That was great scene.Then at end,the story runs and you’ll read about Logan,a inspector who investigated Sophie when she went to register complain of Martin was missing.

• I’ll not give you spoilers , she told inspector about her real name and her secrets.Overall,the ending was great and you’ll remain attached to the novel till end.

I loved the way author highlighted the unity of three women.They faced that man and exposed his reality(As Martin was a greedy man,always seeking money).Their coordination saved innocent souls.

Determination

I had loved Sophie character as she remained firm on the issue of exposing martin dark reality.She was a lil bit afraid but she had her self belief that made her unique.

Motherhood

Sophie developed a great link with kat and that’s show her motherhood.

I don’t know so much but may be the novel represent the time where it seemed women were oppressed by man and denied of their basic rights.In the novel , you’ll learn about Sophie bravery and how she tackled misogynist society of that time.

You’ll get a highlight of san Francisco 1906 earthquake.In the novel author told how this bring calamity and more than 3000 individuals lost lives and how gas leakage ruined buildings in the novel.

Review:The Nature of Fragile Things

Well,I read this novel back in December 2022.I loved the way author highlighted three women’s bond that looked a complete family.Sophie character really impressed me with her will power to find answers.Belinda looked generous and kind women.

Susan Meissner did incredible job by highlighting the san Francisco earthquake of 1906.She through calamity taught us some protocols measure like in the novel people gathered at park.The novel was full of suspense till the end.The characters and setting of story really captivated me.

• This book seems a women fiction genra as well as historical fiction one.If you’re the one interested in historical events,I’ll recommend this book to you.

Nature Of Fragile Things Lessons

The main purpose of each book is to give some worthy lessons to its reader.Here are some lessons i learned from the novel:

• Try to reunite when you had a same goal
• Be kind and generous (Belinda character)
• Tackle the patriarchal society and stand for your rights(like these women did)
• Take care of kids(like the way Sophie cared for kat and even raised her)
