Author

The kite runner is written by Khalid Hosseini who’s a afghan born writer who had asylum in America and working there as a physician.He wrote this fascinating fictional novel back in 2003 and it’s resonates the life of afghani people in Soviet along with Taliban era.

He had some other books like “Thousand Splendid Suns“and many more that shows the themes of love, guilt,women empowerment and many eye catchy lessons.

He’s the educated guy having well financial support and a good friend of Hassan.Amir father wanted to see him as a athlete but he always had passion for writing.Amir mother died during she was giving birth to him.

He’s Amir father having good business working out.He had although some strange character as he always values the truth ,courage but he was somehow shame of his faults in the past.You’ll read in summary below later.

Hassan

He’s Amir best friend in the story and he’s a hazara ,a minority may be in Afghanistan.Hassan and his father Ali are their servants but they had relationship like a family to Hassan and his father.

Ali

He’s Hassan father having one leg seems paralyze but he served Amir family well.

Sanoubar

She’s Hassan mother who had left them for some other man but at the end you’ll read she’s back and lived with hassan family for some years.

Rahim Khan

who is rahim khan in the kite runner?

He’s the character I loved more in novel.He was friend of amir father and he always encouraged amir to pursue what he he preferred.He had kept amir secrets for long time and he was the one who called amir to come back and correct the bad deeds he had have in past.

Assef

He’s afghan guy in novel having a German mother history.He had been introduced to readers as a bad guy who always idolized Hitler and wanted to kill hazaras.He had unlimited amount of hate for Hassan because he was also hazara.

Farid

who is farid in the kite runner?

You’ll read about him in the end .He was one who drive amir back to Afghanistan after years.

Sohrab

He was Hassan son and amir came back to rescue him.He seems a boy of 8 or 9 years.

General Taheri

He was afghani general and he was friend of baba.The general had a daughter named as “Soraya”.

Soraya

She’s the one whom amir liked when he met her in America.Amir married her and both supported each other.

The Kite Runner Book Summary

The story sets in Afghanistan around 1974 reflects a house where two friends behave more than brothers Amir and Hassan.Hassan was son of Ali,a hazara boy who was ready to give his life for Amir,the Baba son.Amir wanted to be a writer while his father wanted to see him as an athlete.Hassan was a great kite runner plus he got great slingshot skills.Many time amir wrote stories and read them to Hassan and he admired him everytime.

The life was going on and one in winter ,kite flying event took place in Afghanistan.Amir was supported by Hassan that he can win this tournament.Amir remained in the competition till he cut all kites and as tradition hassan run for the kite .When Hassan caught that kite he met some bad boys :Assef,a guy who seems master of three ,wali and Kamal.They had hate for hazaras.Two of them grabbed Hassan while Assef seduce Hassan .Amir was watching this from close point but he was not brave ,he didn’t resist this barbaric act.

Hassan came back home without telling anyone what happened to him and handed that kite to amir and said him that for you “a thousand times over”.Amir father had first time felt soo much proud of his son as he won this competition.

The story moves ahead when Amir started hating Hasan and even told his father to let them leave their house and his father got angry and told him they ain’t going anywhere.Amir charged Hassan with theft in the story and they left the house.

Then in 1979 Soviet union came in Afghanistan and amir and baba left Afghanistan.They moved to Pakistan and then went to America.In America,amir father tried his best to earn for his son .One day ,the met general Taheri and amir fell in love with Soraya.

Amir father diagnosed with cancer so they did marry.Baba died after months they married and they moved to their new house.Amir was sad to learned they can’t be parents.

One day,somehow Rahim Khan who’m amir told his secrets called him and ordered him to come back and visit him in Peshawar.Amir came back and Rahim Khan told him some dark secrets.I am not going to reveal because this ain’t give you novel vibes.

Amir was told by Rahim Khan that Hasan and his wife Farzana was killed by talibs when they resist leaving Baba house .They had a beautiful son”Sohrab“who’s living in orphanage in Afghanistan and it’s the time for amir to rescue him and correct his deeds.

Amir drove to Afghanistan with Farid,a taxi driver.They stayed in Farid house in the journey and move to orphanage.

The director told that boy isn’t living there and he’s captivated by Taliban head.Amir tried his way to met talib head and he was surprised that head of talibs was “Assef“.

They showed him sohrab who was dressed in female clothes and seems like they used him as mascara and dancer.

Amir got furious and Assef told his guards let them fight till one of them die.They both fought and amir got bones fractured .Sohrab in order to get revenge or may be his unknown love for amir slingshot Assef on eye and they run away and reached Islamabad.

Their amir told sohrab they’re going to America but Raymond Andrews ,a embassy person told he can’t take him to America as he don’t have parents.

Sohrab was hearted and he tried to cut his arm as he was also ashamed of killing Assef as he slingshot him and think may be this injured or killed him but amir motivated him that he did Right.

Then after many hardwork they reached America.One day amir and Hassan were in park and amir found sohrab love for kites.He handed kite to the boy and when he cut other’s kite he run for the kite to chase it for sohrab and say’s for you “a thousand times over”.

The Kite Runner Analysis

The kite runner seems a story full of friendship, betrayal, following your dreams,fighting for love,standing for one rights, finding the ones whom we loved and correcting faults if we had bad record.Here are some points that i analyze and conclude after reading novel:

• Never betray those who loved us.
• Stand for the right when its needed.
• never hate someone because of status.
• pursue your dream.
• correct your mistakes if possible.

Lessons From The Kite Runner

Friendship

From Amir and hassan friendship you’ll see how much they stand for one Another.Hassan tried his best to stand for Amir.

Betrayal

Amir although didn’t want to deceive hassan but his guilt was the element I noticed.Guilt caused him to betrayed his friend and their friendship ended up.

Class Difference

You’ll see Hassan was servant and amir was the owner but still they liked brothers (no reveal).This lessons as a reader to us that classes don’t have any worth only our good qualities make us better and respectful.

Love

By Amir life you’ll see how he fell in love with general daughter and tried his best and got his love.

Passion

You’ll learn from amir life that no matter what other think about your future you must follow what you want to be.Amir father wanted him to be athlete but he emerged as a writer because writing was his passion.

Stand for right

You’ll learn from Hassan that he always stands for Right.He chased that kite for amir and tried his best not to give it to Assef.

Even he resist leaving Baba house when talibs killed him.

Truth Prevail

Amir father Baba had dark past but one thing as reader you’ll learn that man got bright ideas.He believes in truth ,courage and in women rights.

There’s way to be good again

Amir came back and saved sohrab and corrected his mistakes.

The kite runner book Review

I read this novel back in 2020 and then after that I watched movie.To be honest,one of best novel I read so far.The way Hassan always please Amir and amir rudeness made me fury but I loved him at the end when he rescued sohrab.

Same as reader when I read Amir father dark past made me angry but still loved the way he treat Hasan and Amir as family(I am Not going to reveal ).

• Is kite runner a true story?

I’ll say no it’s not a true story,it’s a fictional novel but the life of people in Afghanistan and the talibs era and their acts and how soviet’s invaded Afghanistan this quite expose reality.
